Playboy

Picture
Goodbye (by Patty):

A piece of my heart left today. Playboy has gone to run in the fields up in heaven. I have owned him for almost 25 years... longer than I have had my kids! He has been my salvation. He has freed me from my nightmares. He is why I say horses have changed my life for the better. He accepted me and all of my foibles. He loved me even when I might not have been so lovable. He will be missed more than most can imagine!
My Update:

I did it!  I was in my first class.  Mom wasn't sure if I would like it, but I LOVED it.  My boy choose me. I was very proud of that and I had to take care of him!  We got to ride in the field on the west campus and we weaved trees and played ball.  My boy was even learning how to get me to stop by pulling back on the reins.

This man also came and groomed and fed me.  It was great slobbering all over him!  He held my feed pan in his lap so it mad eating so much easier too.  When he groomed me, he needed to lean on me.   Mom said he had a stroke, so I stood really still so that he wouldn't lose his balance.  I really like being needed!

Mom is worried about me right now.  I decided that I didn't like my food so much so I stopped eating it for the most part.  I mean really, If you didn't like what you were eating, would you eat it?  Finally mom got me some Purena Senior and I love it.  I don't like it when I have to be separated from my herd, but if I'm not, they steal all of my food.  It is the price I have to pay for having a fast metabolism!

My Story (by Playboy):

My mom, Patty D'Andrea met me when I was 8 years old.  I had been a race horse since I was 4 years old.  My great great grandfather on my dad's side was War Admiral and my great great grandfather on my my mom's side was Man o' War.   My owner back then was Andy Nocero and he hired Barry Wiseman to be my trainer.  Though I only won 1 race in my career, I LOVE to run!

I remember when Mr. Andy lent me to these people who wanted me to be a show horse.  When I got to their barn they decided that I was too small.  They turned me out into a field and never gave me any feed.  I am what that call a hard keeper.  I need a lot of feed to keep weight on me.  But really, if they didn't want me, why not call Mr Andy to tell him.  When he came to check on me about 5 months later, he was so shocked when he saw me that he punched the barn owner right in the nose.

I was skin and bones.  I had no muscles left and even had a heart murmur.  Mr. Barry recommended the Mr. Andy call Patty D'Andrea to give me a good home.  She said yes and promised to give me a good home for the rest of my life.  As I write this, that was 22 years ago.

When mom got me, she had to brush in between my very prominent ribs.  I used to gallop a mile and now I could barely walk down the lane and back without getting winded.  I had rainrot all over my back and it was so cold and I was so skinny, I needed 2 blankets to stay warm.  It was at least 3 months before I had enough energy to carry my mom and that first ride we stood still a lot.  She rode me bareback and my boney back hurt her bony bottom!

We started out doing trail rides and then we used to go to super chicken and chicken horse events (named for the rider not the horse) where we jumped 2' and 2.5' cross country obstacles, did dressage and then did stadium jumping,

That was tons of fun, but my favorite was when we did our 5 hour long trail rides.  No one could keep up with us, 'cause I had somewhere to go. Unfortunately mom would never let me just run.  I run too fast for her and she is a chicken!
