Adaptive riding program for individuals with physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges
Therapeutic riding is a unique combination of sport, recreation, and education that focuses on forming a partnership with the horse.
Horses are very social animals. Social interactions are developed between the horse, therapist, instructors, volunteers, and other students.
As PATH, Intl. certified therapeutic riding instructors, it is our goal to improve independence and functional life skills for those that have emotional, physical, or cognitive disabilities.
How can giving riding lessons improve independence and functional life skills, you ask?
The horse's gait closely emulates that of the human gait it allows the brain to practice correct walking movement patterns. In addition, as you ride on a horse your body is moving through space which stimulates the vestibular system. There is nothing in a clinical setting that can emulate this 3 dimensional dynamic movement.
As a rider’s balance, trunk control, and coordination improves, riders will take their first steps or say their first words after riding on a horse.
