by Patty I was very nervous when I started inviting people to join my board Many of you will not believe itm, but I am very shy. I am also very passionate about Therapeutic Riding and the Healing Power of Horses! I started first with a friend. Catherine Bailey is someone that I worked easily with at R.O.C.K. She was someone that was able to "poke" me to get me motivated on a project and helped keep me motivated. As we talked one day, I found out that she lived in Austin, ... not Georgetown. Maybe, just maybe she would help me get this project off the ground. I invited her to lunch to talk about the future. I was very cryptic, but she accepted the lunch date. As I told her about my vision, she jumped on board. I was quite honestly floored by her faith in my ability! As we continued to talk, she told me a little bit more about herself. Turns out she was the Executive Director for the Texas Academy of Internal Medicine and once again this wealth of talent fell into my lap.
Catherine was another one of my signs that I was on the right path. By now, John is getting tired of my signs, but they keep on coming! I wanted to have a strong board with talents that I do not have so that we could work as a team to make Healing with Horses Ranch the best Therapeutic Riding Center around! As I continued to ask, I continued to get "yeses" from people I did not know well. Tim Ray is a friend of my husband's and I thought he would say yes, but I wanted someone who was strong inIT capabilities. He was responsible for computer security for the state of Texas. I's say he was strong. Craig Niblett is a partner with Elgin Large Animal Hospital. I had never met him though. But because a friend told him about me, he decided to give it a try. What an amazing man. I can't wait to work with him more closely! Tracee Colvin as it turns out is the CFO of she and her husbands Electric company, Colvin Electric. Yay. I found someone who can help me figure out budgets and work with quickbooks and understands payroll! Ron Doll is helping with building improvements. He is an owner of a marina on Lake Travis and though it took me a while, I realized how helpful he will be since the land that I fell in love with is in the flood plain! He has probbly had to deal with that a little bit in his develpment of the Marina! John D'Andrea is also on the board. He is my sounding block, my voice of reason, my biggest advocate. This would not be happening if it were not for him! |
